  1. It’s awesome to see you guys covering Sammo and Yuen Biao movies now.

Prodigal Son features both guys and is regarded as one of the best traditional kung fu movies of all time.

They also appear in Millionaire’s Express and Eastern Condors together, both movies rule. ME is Sammo’s take on a western and EC is a war movie set in Vietnam. Two genres rarely seen in Hong Kong cinema.

    love the pod!

    1. No Doubt, it’s been a lot of fun going through some the Sammo and Yuen stuff, sans Jackie. Great to find so many gems from this era that we hadn’t seen before. Appreciate the listen and the comment!

  2. Looooove Gorgeous! (I agree the relationship is a lil sus) but…Long version is great, adds lots more action! And i thought the choreography was sick! Is nice sometimes when he does some more straight hand to hand stuff. Shows some real fight skills along with the normal stunt skills he has. Most people don’t respect that dude can actually fight… but he’s got so many martial arts under his belt!

    1. Gorgeous was definitely a nice change of pace, just wish they would have leaned more into the Rom-Com aspects. Maybe I need to check out the uncut version next time, cause yeah we definitely felt like there was some stuff missing. Thanks for reaching out!

    1. Good point, i guess if you’re putting The Mummy on a shelf at Blockbuster (or Schnuck’s Video) it’s probably going in Action?

  3. Appreciate the shoutout. nah I’m with you sometimes on the hate haha. Never did i not enjoy one the first time i watched one, as a one time jackie chan watch, just to see what he does in them cuz there is normally a fight or something that jumps at me, even in the ones that dont have alot of rewatch value. but there are some i can’t really watch anymore for sure. Lol. City hunter is one. And i wasn’t saying it as a negative to the show haha. Just the ones i mention are some super favs lol and i was surprised u didn’t enjoy em. Just was commenting more than attacking. My apologies if it came off as such haha.
    Love the show guys!

  5. I know I have come after you both in the past due to your irreverence toward the Sandlot, James Earl Jones, and Steve Irwin (the list probably goes on), but the Indiana Jones commentary has got me back. Alex, I think the entire world of the Car Bar pod (as vast as it is) echoed Nick’s shock when you said Raiders of the Lost Ark was boring. WHAT! I have never heard such a cold take–you may have single handedly cured global warming. Most importantly, I appreciate the irony of Nick being outraged by the commentary on this pod. Indiana Jones is very dear to him and I think you would have done less damage if you just punched him in the face. Bravo, this is cracking me up that you are on such polar opposites of what is a nearly universally acclaimed movie.

    1. The Car Bar is currently in the process of looking for new co-hosts after Alex’s uncalled for criticism of Raiders. If you or anyone you know would like to apply, send a resume, headshot and audio clip of your voice to carbarpodcast.com.

  6. Re Sandlot pod

I’ll be honest, only 12 minutes into this one and I’m APPALLED! You are about to lose half your fan base with that baseball talk. Unfortunately this rage opening dialogue spilled over into the movie review. Undeserved. If you’re going to gang up and knee cap this childhood classic, you should have someone with a rational viewpoint to defend it. You would never speak about Mighty Ducks like this and we all know the suspension of disbelief for both these movies is monumental. Nick you literally lived this movie as a kid all those summer we met up and watched your baseball games before riding our bikes all over Crestwood. I’ll hang up and listen.

  7. On the Heart of the Ocean discussion: people (like Bill Paxton) who salvage things from sunken ships do have a strong legal claim to them, so that checks out. But you know who doesn’t have a claim to it? Rose! She effectively stole it from Cal, and it is super distinctive, so it’s not like she could have sold it or worn it openly.

    1. Makes sense, then again we see a lot of shit pop up on Antique Roadshows that was clearly stolen during WWII, so she might have turned a pretty penny at some point or at least left it for her daughter who was taking care of her busted ass all that time.
